Microsoft’s Windows 11 25H2 Update Fixes Persistent Issue
Windows 11 comes with its own set of bugs, peculiarities, and oddities, and occasionally, Microsoft addresses some of these problems to offer users a much-needed break. In June of this year, the firm eliminated the notorious Blue Screen of Death, and in August, Microsoft resolved an irritating Bluetooth problem. Recently, the company launched yet another update for Windows 11 that addresses the vexing “Update and shut down” issue that has troubled Windows machines for years. If you’ve ever selected the “Update and shut down” choice only to find your computer restarting after the update is complete, you’re certainly not alone. As reported by Windows Latest, this feature has been malfunctioning since Windows 10 and has only now received a fix.
The remedy for this frustrating issue was part of the optional KB5067036 update (Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.7019 or Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.7019, depending on your version). This update began to be rolled out on October 28, 2025, and is likely already available on your PC if you have enabled the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” setting in Windows Update. If this option is not activated and you’re still encountering the faulty “Update and shut down” issue, you can go to the Windows Update page in Settings and select “Check for updates” to install the KB5067036 update. However, if you prefer not to install the optional upgrade, Microsoft intends to incorporate the fix into a mandatory update on November 11.
